Service Description

The ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute) courses are internationally recognised and are valid for two years. Courses can be taken in: Adult First Aid, CPR & AED Adult and Child First Aid, CPR & AED Adult, Child and Infant First Aid, CPR & AED The courses can be taught as a blended course or a classroom course. The advantage of the blended approach is that the theory element of the training is completed as an online training programme that can be done at the participant's own pace at home before attending a face to face practical skills class. The online training programme takes approximately 3 hours to complete (can be done in multiple stages as your progress saves as you go) The face to face practical skills session takes 3 - 3.5 hours to complete. If you do not have a valid first aid certificate or have never taken a first aid class in the past you must complete the online training programme and the face to face practical skills session. If you have a valid (still in date) first aid and CPR certificate and you would like to renew your skills you only need attend the face to face practical skills class. The online training programme is a series of excellent videos teaching the theory underpinning the first aid skill being learnt, the videos also provide many different scenarios teaching the participants how to apply the theory and skill in varied situations. Each topic is followed by an exam style question that the participant must get correct in order to progress through the course. The online training programme substitutes the need for a written exam at the face to face session. The practical skills session focuses on the role of the first aider, what to do and not do in emergency situations and how to complete a primary and secondary assessment for a responsive and unresponsive person. We spend some time focusing on our assessment skills as these form the foundations for many other skills. CPR skills and safe usage of an AED are taught and assessed through scenario based training as well as how to control severe life threatening bleeding. We also focus on first aid skills for: - The unconscious person - Drowning - Choking - Head and spinal injuries - Seizures - Anaphylaxis - Burns - Limb injuries - Heart attacks - Minor injuries - Heat emergencies We can also teach an ASHI certified course as a full classroom course, this will take 6.5 hours and can be done in one or two sessions.
